Challenge #3 - With Criminal Intent - April 11 - 24, 2005 [Apr. 10th, 2005|09:16 pm]

Ok, next challenge (although the current one doesn't end until midnight, and of course you can still submit after the deadline), which will officially run from April 11 - 24.

(As always, remember that the challenge title does not need to be your story title - you are welcome to title the story whatever you like.)

The theme this week is With Criminal Intent. In order for the story to qualify as a challenge fiction, one of your main characters must either be a regular, practicing criminal or must have committed a criminal act. In original fiction, it's pretty obvious what to do; in fan fiction, you can either have an existing canon character commit the crime OR create an OOC that features prominently in the story. The severity of the criminal act is up to you.

Don't forget you can still submit under the guidelines of any previous challenges if this one doesn't do it for you.

Happy writing!

The archive is finally, REALLY up! [Mar. 28th, 2005|11:23 pm]

First, note that I've changed the rules slightly about what header information you need to put on your story if you post it to the LJ community. You don't need to do this on the archive, as you'll select these things when you post the story.

Also, I finally went through the archive and revamped the categories, etc. Please post your stories under the appropriate category/sub-category (fan fiction, original fiction, RPF, etc.). Once you choose this, you will have to choose characters for the sub-category you chose before you can upload your story (choose multiple characters by holding down the shift key while you click on the different characters).

The genres section has now been updated with the usual categories (humor, romance, pwp, challenges, etc.). As with characters, note that you can select more than one genre by holding down the shift key and clicking on the genres you would like to choose.

If you notice that there is a category, genre, or character that is not represented, let me know. I'll be happy to add it.

Finally, I bumped up the font size just a bit and FINALLY tracked down what I had done to make the stories and FAQ center justify. Everything should be good to go now!

I'm going to be playing with the @#(*$(@#*!!@% archive again to try and fix the problems with the centering problems. In order to do that, I'm switching the archive to one of the default skins that doesn't have our logo or anything at the top. Hopefully I'll have it fixed soon! In the meantime, just ignore the weird look of the site. :)

Here's the next challenge, which will officially run from March 21 - April 10. I'm giving an extra week in there because of Easter, and yes, I realize that it's not yet the 21st, but I forgot I set the last challenge to end on Saturday (I meant for it to end on Sunday - I'm a doofus). Anyway, here's the info:

(remember that the challenge title does not need to be your story title - you are welcome to title the story whatever you like)

The theme this week is drabbles. You can have one story made up of several drabbles that function as different scenes, or just have several non-related drabbles (please provide header info per the FAQ for each separate drabble if you change fandoms or pairings). Use the following guidelines:

1. Challenges should be made up of at least 3 to 5 drabbles. The strict definition of drabbles means 100 words, although up to 500 words per drabble is fine.

2. One of the drabbles should contain a reference to Spring.

3. One drabble should have an animal in it.

Don't forget you can still submit under the guidelines of Challenge #1 if this challenge doesn't float your boat.

Happy writing!

Ugh, I'm still trying to troubleshoot the damn archive, which insists on centering the text on stories. Sorry for the wonky display in the meantime.

Anyway, here's my response to the challenge (on the archive here):

Title: Of God and Pancakes
Author: LauraM/buffyspazz
Rating: PG
Pairing: n/a
Genre: Original Fiction
Summary: Maggie's little brother talks to God, but when she tries to determine if he's full of faith or fanaticism, the stability of their family is threatened.
A/N: This is a rough second draft - I'm still hoping to hone this one down some more.

Archive is Up [Mar. 13th, 2005|03:35 pm]

Hey everyone, just a note to let you know that the archive is up. I'm still tweaking things (like getting stories, the help page, etc. to left-align rather than center), but you can at least get yourself registered and post your stories.

Hope your writing is going well!

Hey guys...just a quick post to let you know that I modified the rules a bit to allow Real Person Fic (het or slash). Basically, I'm not about limiting people, and until I have any legal reason to keep some types of fiction off of the site, I decided to open it up to anything. How I can I run a challenge community with no boundaries if I try and box people into certain types of work?

Challenge #1 - "If Music Be the Food of Life..." - March 3 - 19 [Mar. 3rd, 2005|10:19 pm]

As of 3/3/05 - the archive is not really functional yet, so please don't go poking around. I need to customize it, but I thought I'd get a challenge up and running, and then I can work on getting the archive up this weekend.

Here are the points you should cover in your story in order to submit it under the first challenge category, "If Music Be the Food of Life...":

(note that the challenge title does not need to be your story title - you are welcome to title the story whatever you like)

1. The story should have a jar of jelly in it somewhere.

2. It should either begin or end in some type of musical place (a record store, music classroom, etc).

3. At least one character should discover something (open to interpretation - it could be a thing, a self-discovery, whatever - let yourself go wild).

The challenge will officially end on March 19 (I'm giving a few extra days, since the community is new and I just started advertising it). If you finish your story before I have the archive complete, you can post the story on the community and then I'll archive it when the archive is up, or you can hold it and wait to post it to the archive.

Finally, I know that they're really, really long, but please take the time to read the rules before you begin the challenge, as I have lots of info on how the challenges on this community work (you'll see it's VERY laidback), as well as instructions on how to post your work.

Enjoy!! :D
